I have been experiencing "pick a room-anxiety" since Friday. Seeing the state of the living room and taking into account the fact that I only finished 1 room so far, makes me very reluctant about choosing a new room. I think I am setting myself up for failure. Getting started every week, but never finishing anything. I know myself well enough to know that not choosing a new room won't make me finish and old one.
One of today's problem was that I wasn't able to stick with my "no appointments on Mondays" rule. I was to visit 2 people this morning, one appointment fell through and I took the hour I won to run to the famous Swedish furniture store. Of course there was piano and I had sneakily made a dental appointment right after piano. Unfortunately the school changed the kids's time tables so I had to switch the kids's piano lessons around so the kid that was half way to the dentist at piano lessons wasn't the one who had the appointment. Add having to make a cake for today and you can see why I might have felt a little overwhelmed about this new room.
Fortunately I have a friend, Louisa who decided to be my challenge partner. Her room this week is a small bathroom. I have decided to tag along. That upstairs bathroom has almost no storage room so there isn't much in there to begin with. I am telling myself I can do this in one day. I guess I really could if only I got started. I am just not happy about using another one of my "joker rooms" already just to keep this project going. But not all is lost, just yet. I have been picking at shelves and drawers in other rooms that I am not officially working on whenever the occasion arose, so I am making more progress than I think. At least I hope so!
Realizing I was a hoarder was both a shock and a relief. A shock, because nobody wants to have a mental disorder. A relief, because my situation finally had a name. I found people who could relate. Knowing the problem helps solving it. I can step aside and look at the situation from a more neutral point of view. Why am I blogging about it? 2 reasons. 1. Putting my thoughts into words helps me think more clearly. 2. If this helps just one, who is like me, see the light it was more than worth it!

DAY 6 - SIDETRACKED
Today I got side tracked running errands. I helped friends pick up some furniture (their car is too small), got some organizing equipment as I was at IKEA already (wanted to get the stuff for a week but never made it). Before I left for that, I more or less spent the morning reading. I caught a nasty cold and I wasn't in the mood to fight it today. Having to go to 2 more stores that were completely crowded, just like IKEA was, I was pretty wasted by the time I was back. James had a project he wanted to finish so I was in charge of the kids.
You probably saw this one coming. I haven't done a thing today. Except maybe mess up the kitchen. Ah well, I am rather relaxed about my project at the moment. I realized that I will not have failed if I don't finish. Every little bit I do takes me closer to being organized and ready to tackle the attic.
Come to think of it. I did organize one shelf and threw out a few things. Little things, count, too.
surface of the day: top of a book shelf
7 a day: 4 broken planters, a light fixture, more acrylic paint

IKEA
I might not be on of IKEA's biggest fans, but what I really do like are their storage solutions. A friend of mine was there and got me the SKUBB boxes. They have a zipper on the bottom so if you store nothing in them you can store the box flat.
I was waiting for the big ones so I could finally finish organizing my wardrobe. I did that the second the boxes where at my house. Then I looked at the smaller boxes. For the life of me I couldn't remember what I wanted them for. They were lying around for 2 or 3 days and I still couldn't remember.
Well. I found a good place for 2 of them at last in the cabinet behind he door in the bathroom. Seperating a shelf with boxes will do miracles for you space wise. Now I better find use for the remaining 4. Storing storage boxes would simply be redundant!
