Because December is only the busiest month of the year, I decided to make it even harder. I picked my very own personal Christmas challenge. Declutter on shelf/box/basket/pile/whatever Mo-Sa until Christmas. It is DAY 1 and I am regretting it already. Why? Cause it is almost midnight and I haven't done. Failing on DAY 1 is not an option. I am wondering which Drawer/shelf surface is easiest. I am going for the sideboard in the living room. We cleared it off for Thanksgiving, but it already has 3 random items on top of it, that all need to be put away. Yes. Feels like cheating, but it is better than not doing it I think. Off I go!
Yes. That was Dec. 1st. I did get my surface done right before midnight. I was smart enough to pick an easy one. I went all out and even put some Christmas deco on the sideboard in the living room. Friday I made the mistake of picking a surface that was too easy and ended up doing a drawer too, in the process. Saturday I suffered. I did a basket of laundry. Do I hear disagreeing voices? Oh I do. Let me explain. Not only has this basket been MIA for weeks it was also on the bottom of a pile of hoard. I emptied it, put the basket back into the laundry rotation and...AND IRONED the stuff that was in it. I WIN!
Realizing I was a hoarder was both a shock and a relief. A shock, because nobody wants to have a mental disorder. A relief, because my situation finally had a name. I found people who could relate. Knowing the problem helps solving it. I can step aside and look at the situation from a more neutral point of view. Why am I blogging about it? 2 reasons. 1. Putting my thoughts into words helps me think more clearly. 2. If this helps just one, who is like me, see the light it was more than worth it!

REMEMBER THE REASON
for the season! May your Christmas be filled with love and joy, with hope and happiness!
Remember the child, born in a stable, laid down to sleep in a manger. The greatest gift of all.

12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS
I know, I know. This is for lunatics. But I can't help it. I have been thinking about this for so long I will do it. I simply will. I don't care about your objections. I will do the 12 days of Christmas as a room clean up. Each day I will go through one room. Day 1- room 1- Day 2- room 1+2, Day 3 - room 1+2+3. You get the idea. Crazy? Most definitely. I know you are thinking about my Easter challenge way back when and you are getting worried. I accomplished so much back then. I thought I failed, but looking back I realize I didn't. This works for me. So I will do it again. Call me crazy. This should be fun!

CHRISTMAS DELIGHT
Obviously Christmas is over. But still I need to share this with you. This is my stash of cookie tin boxes. I know. You are jealous. You wish they were yours! I hate having to admit that they come as a set of 3. So the ones still wrapped in plastic have 2 smaller ones inside them. I have used most of the smaller boxes, but some of the big hide more boxes inside them. I am sure you understand how relieved I was when last year the patterns where not my style. Not just "not my style". I thought they were UGLY! So no need to buy more. Unfortunately I started digging through the stack and wouldn't you know it. I came across a few I liked. So, I added anohter 9 boxes to my collection. Well. One day you win. One day you lose! Going with Marie Kondo's philosphy I get to keep them as they "spark joy". They do spark a little guilt, too, I must admit. I wonder what MK has to say about that! 2014-04-04
SANTA CLAUS
Jack & Jill were among our guests over the weekend. I took advantage of that and dragged Jill up to the attic. Less embarrassing after telling her that I am a hoarder. I know it is usually the women who have the last say when it comes to furniture, so I figured no need to bother Jack if she doesn't like the dresser I had up there for her. (I know exactly where they need to go in her apartment!)
She never hesitated for a second. She wanted them. And she was really excited. Just like last time she mentioned this is like Christmas. And I get to be Santa. HoHoHo! I love it. Jack got to haul the stuff down from the attic with James. At the moment the 2 dressers are parked in the living room as we need to take the back row of seats out of the car to fit them in. But just knowing that they will go out soon makes me happy!

Upside down and 2 drawers out. Those things are HEAVY!
Surface of the day: dresser top
5 a day: old medicine, bit's and piece of (broken) toys

I'M BACK
The upside with nobody ever reading your blog is that your fans don't miss you when you don't post. HAHAHA! The last 2 weeks have been rather challenging. I was sick, the kids were sick, more kids were sick, my husband James (I know I know, the person who picked that name had a wicked sense of humor) was sick and the place here literally went to pieces.
When an overwhelmed friend once told me her house was such a mess, she didn't know where to start I told her that can be good news, too. I said in my case it means that I don't have to even get off the couch to get started.
I've worked so hard and achived so much in the last couple of weeks. Seeing the place right now is kind of discouraging. But I've done it before and I can doit again. I just really would like this place to look clean for Christmas.
