I hope this story will help illustrate what kind of person I am. I must admit I wasn't to eager to go to my parent's house. Too much potential drama. I feel rather fragile emotionally at the moment so I don't really need more drama. I did anything to avoid getting ready. I still had cookie dough and egg whites for James's favorite marzipan cookies in the fridge. So instead of packing I started making cookies. We wouldn't want to waste 3 egg whites, now would we? And not to mention the cookie dough.
Now I don't think this was only about not wanting to go. I really can't handle throwing away food unless it is rotten.
It also shows just how happy I am to avoid taking care of the task at hand if it is unpleasant. I need to learn to face life. I will start by facing the laundry on Monday.
Realizing I was a hoarder was both a shock and a relief. A shock, because nobody wants to have a mental disorder. A relief, because my situation finally had a name. I found people who could relate. Knowing the problem helps solving it. I can step aside and look at the situation from a more neutral point of view. Why am I blogging about it? 2 reasons. 1. Putting my thoughts into words helps me think more clearly. 2. If this helps just one, who is like me, see the light it was more than worth it!

THE COOKIE SHEET
When I moved in after marrying James, he was the proud owner of one tin cookie sheet. I was sufficient for our needs. ITS' major problem was that the ends tended to bend up if the stuff put on it was too heavy and every know and then, they bent up so far that it wouldn't be able to hold itself up on d the oven rack and it would crash down and take everything with it that was on it. Of course that makes quite the mess and it is no fun to clean out a burning hot oven.
Over time I got additional cookie sheets. 2 years ago I had so many that I could have easily retired the tin cookie sheet. Did I? Okay. That was a rhetorical question. OF course I did not, I came up with every lame excuse available why it would make sense to keep it. I used it as a cooling rack, as a dripping pan, I even used it the intended way every know and then to be able to keep it.
So celebrate with me, this moment when I finally decided I could let it go. I had to be fast about it to not change my mind and to really make sure it would leave the house I did this:

BURNT OFFERINGS

I will blame my hoarder self for not throwing those in the trash immediately. Surely they could be saved? Parts of them were edible? NO? No. NO!
Seriously. How can this even be a question? And still it was. I ended up having somebody else throw them away. At least they weren't around for more than 30 min.

COOKIE THERAPY
Because cake therapy worked so well, I decided to give cookie therapy a try. Silly me went ahead and started a quadruple batch. Bad decision. First of all it is kind of hard to get that amount mixed well. And then unfortunately you have to drop them all on a cookie sheet to bake them. Trust me. That takes forever. And then when you are done with baking them all, somebody has to eat them. And it better not be me.
I ended up giving half of them away (I meant to give some away from the beginning). I am afraid the therapeutic effect of it was very small. The kids were thrilled, and so were the 2 friends who got the cookies!
